Changing your eating habits can be a daunting task in the society we live in. Everywhere you turn there are convenience foods and eating establishments that were not put on this Earth in the name of health and wellness. Fear not, with just a few easy modifications, you can change your eating habits for the better.

Don’t drink your calories.
You may not realize it, but that morning Caramel Macchiato can pack a whopping 200 calories or more. That may not seem like much, but if you are drinking a lot of beverages throughout the day, those calories add up. Instead of drinking your calories, try to stick to water. If you don’t like plain water, add a slice of lemon, lime, or cucumber. For something really different, freeze some raspberries in water to add as ice to your beverage.

Fill up on fiber.
Do you constantly feel like you are hungry, even though you just finished eating? Eat more fiber. Fiber keeps you feeling fuller, longer. A few foods that can help you eat less and stay satisfied are cooked artichokes, black beans, whole-wheat spaghetti, and apples.

Be prepared.
Keep some healthy snacks with you at all times. A snack-sized bag with healthy nuts or raisins can help to keep you from hitting the vending machine during the dreaded afternoon snack attack.

Eat your fruits and veggies.
Fruits and vegetables are packed with healthy antioxidants, and they are nutrient-dense. This means fewer calories, and more nutrients to keep you going. Keep a wide variety of colors in your diet for a wider range of antioxidants.

Do your homework.
When possible, check the nutritional information for eating establishments before you get there. This can help you to see what the healthier choices on the menu are. If you don’t have time to check the nutritional values or the values are not available, avoid creamy foods, fried or breaded items, and ask for dressing and sauces on the side.

With just a few simple steps, you can be on the path to a healthier diet. Plan ahead, stay mindful, and remember, knowledge is power.
